Lisa Larson-Bunnell and her husband, Nick, and son, Lucas.

Why me?

I applied for the Council appointment because I was no longer willing to sit back and let someone else do this important work.  Here is how I approach my position:

I attend meetings and as many community events as possible.  I follow up with my constituents when they have questions. I am responsive to my fellow council members.

I do not hide my reasons for voting in a particular way. I am deliberative and transparent in my approach. I also consider the viewpoints of community members and council members that are different from my own.

I am prepared

I approach questions in the same way each time.  I read all materials provided, ask questions of city staff members as necessary, and invite citizens to comment on issues to be voted on. To the extent permitted by law, I communicate with my fellow council members about issues and the reasons I intend to vote a particular way.

I Am Kind

Kindness Matters.   I treat everyone with respect and dignity, even if I disagree with them. You can see that in my service to the City.  It is important for me to be a good role model for my son.  If you are looking for drama and acrimony on the council, look elsewhere.  Kindness is strength, and there is no better way to influence.

Meet Lisa

I first moved with my parents to western Shawnee 20 years ago, when they bought a new home in Hillcrest Farm. My parents still live there, in the same house. I moved to St. Louis for law school and the start of my career, but as my husband Nick and I talked about starting a family, we were drawn back to Kansas City. I was fortunate to be hired as an attorney at a local non-profit hospital, and we started house shopping. We quickly chose western Shawnee because we already knew about the great schools, parks, safe neighborhoods and friendly, welcoming people.

Nick and I have a four-year old son, Lucas, who is incredibly excited to start at Mize Elementary this fall. In our free time, we enjoy the many fantastic family activities in the area, including Wonderscope and Splash Cove.

I have seen western Shawnee grow over the last 20 years, and I see the tremendous potential for what's next. I am honored to have the opportunity to represent you during this exciting time.
